Summit Sisters 2017
Head Food Fairy
Kestrel has been a Kitchen Witch since she started baking desserts (read: making messes) at age 7. Since her first job making tacos in the mall she’s cooked for retreats, conferences, gatherings, festivals and communities around the country. She’s still not very good at cleaning up.
Kestrel cut her teeth on large group cooking as a resident volunteer of Kripalu Yoga Center in Massachussets – first in “veggie prep” and then the bakery, she spent a year cooking for 250 – 600 people. She has headed up the kitchen at a social justice summer camp for teens in the mountains of Vermont for the last three summers, ran the Food Processing program at Twin Oaks Community in Virginia canning and freezing hundreds of pounds of produce, and was Head Food Fairy for the Women’s Gathering and Intentional Communities Conferences held there.
Kestrel has several food allergies and is passionate about healthy, delicious food no matter one’s dietary needs. She holds a Permaculture Design certificate and is creating a food forest in her Wheat Ridge yard. From seed to plant to plate (or jar!) and back to the soil, Kestrel loves food and looks forward to feeding you at Summit Sisters 2017!
Kestrel is working on having a home base right now but spent her 4 college years leading outdoor trips all over the Southeastern US, later worked for Naturalists at Large in California leading trips for school kids, and has spent several outdoorsy summers at camps for kids and teens. She also was a river guide on the Arkansas River.
