Queer Wilderness Project – LGBTQ+

Queer Wilderness Project is a safe and empowering space for the LGBTQ+ community to connect outdoors. This summer, we’re focusing on youth programming for high schoolers (rising 9th-12th, or recently graduated seniors) through a three-part session model:

Warm Up: 4 FREE Virtual Hangout Sessions held weekly in June

  • Mondays in June – 8, 15, 22, 29
  • 6-7:30pm Mountain Time
  • No limit on participants, two instructors
  • “Drop-in” style

The Course: 6 in-person day sessions in Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain Parks in July and August where we will hike, talk, get deep and just have fun.

  • Mondays in July and August  (July 6, 13, 20, 27, August 3, 10)
  • 6-7:30pm Mountain Time
  • Max of 8 participants, 2 instructors
  • All courses will be held in Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks locations

The Peak: A guided overnight backpacking trip in Indian Peaks Wilderness in September with your new community.

  • Absolutely no experience necessary.
  • The Peak will be an add-on to The Course.
  • Details to be confirmed in July.

Why Does It Matter? Because the challenges of these days are real. They are especially real for queer youth. We are an active force in building an explicitly inclusive and supportive space where you can grow, thrive, make friends and feel free to be yourself.

Why Join? Can you imagine anything better than hanging out with other queer-identified teens in the wild? We can’t. Also, Queer Wilderness offers:

  • A unique camp designed for/by LGBTQ+ teens
  • A chance to get outside and feel the freedom of big skies and open air
  • Queer-identified instructors who are Wilderness First Responder certified AND amazing facilitators. Read more about Lior and Piper, our two lead instructors.
  • Financial aid (full and partial scholarships) if you can’t afford the course fee

To learn more about how we’re addressing health, from both a physical and mental perspective, read our COVID-19 Guidelines for Families and Participants. We will be updating this to adhere to all CDC, State and local requirements.
