Sport Leading 201

Sliding Scale Course Fees  |  Women’s Wilderness has created a sliding scale for all its Women’s programs in an effort to keep our courses affordable to a wide range of people.  All our pricing scales are significantly below the prices of for-profit companies. The top price represents the actual cost to run the course, and the second two tiers represent scholarships.  We set forth no criteria and trust that each individual will pay what they feel is appropriate.

Looking to take your lead climbing to the next level? If you have the technical skills to sport lead but feel a little shaky on the sharp end, this course will help you build your confidence as a lead climber.

Often, what holds us back on a climb isn’t our physical ability but our mental state. This course will help you address how your mindset influences your climbing and teach you techniques for handling fear on the wall. You will also learn how to take safe falls and provide soft catches on lead, which can help build confidence when it’s time to commit to that next move.

This course focuses on the following skills:

  • Reviewing lead belaying & communication
  • Evaluating potential hazards on a climb
  • Falling & catching on lead
  • Managing stress & fear

(While you will practice proper technique for lead climbing and belaying, there is no actual lead climbing in this course. You will hone your skills in a mock lead situation on top-rope.)
