Shelter-Craft for Survival
$89.00 – $109.00
Sliding Scale Course Fees | Women’s Wilderness has created a sliding scale for all its Women’s programs in an effort to keep our courses affordable to a wide range of people. All our pricing scales are significantly below the prices of for-profit companies. The top price represents the actual cost to run the course, and the second two tiers represent scholarships. We set forth no criteria and trust that each individual will pay what they feel is appropriate.
When bad weather hits: lightening, flooding, extreme cold or heat, intense wind, etc… having a snug shelter can mean the difference between life and death. And even when the weather is fine, I always feel better when I know my “bed” is ready for me as night falls. The “rule of threes” goes like this: a human can go about 30 days without food, three days without water, and on average 3 hours without shelter. Building a solid shelter and meeting a host of other essential needs can easily be met by having a solid foundation in knot-tying. So we’ll spend the day empowering each other through tying knots and building great shelters!
This one-day course covers a variety of topics relating to shelter craft: basic knots, hitches, and lashings that can be used to build simple, functional, emergency shelters in multiple types of environments; concepts on locating your shelter to avoid hazards and make best use of the environment and terrain you’re in; shelter living considerations for different environments; pro-tips for making your shelter cozy, functional, and bug-free; and natural shelter principles and ways to minimize effort for maximum protection.
Our instructor Jessie Krebs has been a United States Air Force survival instructor, has taught all kinds of people outdoors for 25 years, and starred in National Geographic’s “Mygrations” as part of a human “herd” traveling across the Serengeti, as well as in “Kicking and Screaming, AND most recently on the Science Channel’s “Hacking the Wild.” She will get you DIALED on your survival skills!
