Leadership Foundation: “Who Am I?”
Ages: Entering 9th to 12th grade in Fall 2017
Dates: June 25th – 29th, 2017
Location: Vedauwoo, Wyoming. Course starts and ends at our office in Boulder, Colorado.
This is our foundation leadership course, where we will spend 5 days car camping and rock climbing in Vedauwoo, Wyoming.
The theme for this course is “Who am I?” We at Women’s Wilderness believe that before you can lead, you must first have a strong sense of personal identity. During this course, each girl will explore her sense of identity and personal values and beliefs. We will teach and practice skills around self-awareness as it applies to both rock climbing and life at home and school.
This course is appropriate for girls who have never climbed before and want to give it a try AND for girls who have climbed in the gym or outdoors before.
We will be base camping, which means that you will learn how to set up a tent, cook meals, and live for 5 days at one campsite.
Climbing will take place at a different location each day. Some hikes to the rock will be short, some might be a bit longer, but the majority of your time will be spent working on climbing skills. For newer climbers, you will learn how to belay (safely hold the end of the rope for a climber), tie knots, and do safety checks before and after climbing. For girls who already know these skills, there will be opportunities to learn more advanced climbing techniques. This can include attempting challenging climbs, or learning how to use special gear to build anchors for the climbs.
Your instructors are women who are experienced climbers and teachers and will give you the coaching appropriate for your skill level!
