Intro to Climbing
$55.00 – $115.00
Sliding Scale Course Fees | Women’s Wilderness has created a sliding scale for all its Women’s programs in an effort to keep our courses affordable to a wide range of people. All our pricing scales are significantly below the prices of for-profit companies. The top price represents the actual cost to run the course, and the second two tiers represent scholarships. We set forth no criteria and trust that each individual will pay what they feel is appropriate.
If you’ve wanted to give climbing a try but are just starting to build your outdoor climbing skills, this course is meant for you! Our awesome AMGA-certified guides will teach you the basics of climbing, including safety systems and techniques, and you’ll be joined by other women who are just starting out, too. You can learn and grow together and begin building your own supportive and strong climbing community.
We want you to have fun and be safe on the rock, so you’ll learn the most crucial skills that every climber needs to know, including how to tie in to the rope system, how to top-rope belay, and how to climb efficiently so you don’t get frustrated. You’ll also learn how to properly fit a harness, helmet, and climbing shoes, and if you don’t have your own gear, we will provide you with everything you need for the day.
This course focuses on the following skills:
- How to tie in using a figure eight knot
- Climbing commands and proper communication
- Understanding a top-rope system
- Top-rope belay technique
- Lowering from a route (as both belayer & climber)
- Climbing technique
- Considerations for climbing in an outdoor environment
