Marina Fleming, Associate Director

Marina Fleming Program Director

Marina Fleming comes to Women’s Wilderness most recently from Lander, Wyoming where she spent the last handful of years working in outdoor education for NOLS. Throughout this time, Marina worked in marketing, custom education, and as a field and classroom instructor. As a field instructor, she’s grown a deep appreciation for working with girls in particular as they navigate complex years of discovering their voice, embracing their potential, and growing into the robust beings that they already are. As a cultural competency classroom instructor, Marina has committed to uncovering blind spots and biases that work against equity and inclusivity, and providing resources and tools to create learning communities in which all are seen, heard, and appreciated. Other highlights within her NOLS career include building multi-year relationships with clients to make wilderness classrooms accessible, transformative, and transferrable for a wide spectrum of students, and the day to day work to implement systems to ensure sustainability and successful student outcomes.

Previous to NOLS, Marina served two years as an AmeriCorps VISTA in Boulder, Colorado and in Portland, Oregon. This dedication to poverty alleviation work created a humble foundation from which she now interacts with the world. Passion projects in Boulder have become volunteering for Boulder Food Rescue and a women’s book club. In her free time, Marina is at her best when running, biking, swimming, backpacking or otherwise exploring new terrain outside under her own power, preferably with the company of her partner, Kevin.

Marina has a BA in Corporate and Organizational Communication from College of Charleston.
