12.24.08 - The Women's Wilderness Institute Receives Prestigious Accreditation

For Immediate Release - December 23, 2008 (Boulder, Colorado) - After more than 12 months of in-depth internal and external assessment and review, The Women's Wilderness Institute has been granted Accredited Status by the Accreditation Council of the Association for Experiential Education (AEE). This status will be valid through November 5, 2011, three years from the date of accreditation.

Attaining accredited status through the AEE Accreditation Program is solid evidence of an organization's commitment to quality and safety, belief in professional standards, and allocation of resources toward continued excellence and improvement. 4.25.2008 - Rising Up: Empowered Girls Make the Move from Middle to High School

Daily Camera - Fifteen-year-old Miah Yager is getting ready to leave the people she calls her second family. As it does every year, Manhattan Middle School will soon say goodbye to the eighth-graders moving on to high school. But during the last two months Yager has had help in preparing for her departure from the school she calls home. Yager is one of five eight-grade girls participating in Girls on the Rise, a program the Women's Wilderness Institute started in February.

4.22.2008 - Mixing Estrogen and Adventure: The Womens Wilderness Institute

Colorado Daily - TWWI, based in Boulder, runs several programs designed to build confidence and leadership skills in girls and women. The majority, save for the new Girls on the Rise -- a program that helps eighth-grade girls make the difficult transition to high school -- are grounded in wilderness experiences. New York Times - “When was the last time you did something for the first time?" shouted Cindy Read's friends from down below. Scared and injured with a scraped-up leg, Ms. Read, from Denver, struggled to make it to the top of Edward's Crack, a narrow crevasse in a granite dome rock in Vedauwoo, Wyo. But the moment she heard her five friends call out the group's encouraging motto, Ms. Read realized she could not give up. Her 50-foot ascent was a success, and when she reached the summit she thanked Raleigh Coburn and Danika Gilbert, the two instructors who led the climb.
