Busting Out – Look for the good!
By Beth Davis, TWWI Executive Director
I recently wrote in our 2008 Annual Report, "In the coming year, we will distill down to our core values, discern needs vs. wants, de-clutter, streamline, simplify and innovate"...I also put forth optimism as a guiding theme. How do these ideas and themes live in our organization and the community who supports The Women's Wilderness Institute?
I recently met with Lauren Sigman, a Certified Financial PlannerTM, who will lead the financial planning section of the "Finance Rocks" course this summer. Her work certainly lands her smack dab in the intensity of the current economic climate. She could easily feel completely absorbed by her own business.
Lauren wanted to support our organization, and felt that if the staff could feel some financial support, help, and relief, they could then focus on delivering great wilderness experiences for girls and women. So what does she do? She offers a free 1-hour financial planning session for every staff member at The Women's Wilderness Institute!
Lauren reflects....." It's so easy to get yourself into a cycle of anxiety and depression over things you can't control, such as the stock market, or the economy. I really feel that TWWI has a great role to play in breaking that cycle by creating an environment where women can focus on renewing their spirit and busting out of whatever rut they may find themselves in.""
Optimism and hopefulness abound when help and support comes in these remarkable, thoughtful, helpful ways. I feel confident that the vibrant fabric of the Women's Wilderness Community will continue to innovate with the support, care and these kinds of unexpected opportunities to renew and refocus.
